George Benson – Inspiration: A Tribute to Nat King Cole

GeorgeBenson
40 years in the business and he’s still going on strong. Fact is, George Benson is legend and he’s back with yet another great album called Inspiration – a tribute to Nat King Cole.

This album is like a musical homecoming. He sets the stage with a recording of Mona Lisa recorded when he was only 8. This was after he won a local singing contest playing his ukulele because his hands were too small for a guitar.

Other notable classics on the album include Nat King Cole’s signature Unforgettable featuring one of the world’s finest musicians and composers, trumpeter Wynton Marsalis – famous for promoting classical music and jazz to a younger audience.

In another track, Too Young the smooth, soulful voice of George Benson blended really well with that of Judith Hill – a participant of The Voice. The pair gave the track a really raw, vinyl quality that his fans have come to love about him.

So this is one CD you would wanna get. Better still, why not catch him live in Singapore on 26th August at the Kallang Theatre.

On the whole, this easy listening album has just the right dose of nostalgia and a whole lot of soul so I’m giving George Benson’s Inspiration 4 out of 5.
