Brand New by Sarah Cheng-De Winne
What do you get when you put a presenter, producer, photographer, jazz and pop artist into a box and give it a good shake?
You get singer-songwriter Sarah Cheng-De Winne. And she’s back in the local music scene with her second album entitled Brand New.
Two years after her debut album, Let’s Pretend, Sarah is back to tease you with tracks like Parallel Lives and Love-Shape Void. She even attempts a single Mandarin track, which is about eternal love in all its expressions. Not too bad actually.
Highly versatile and boasting a deep contralto voice, Sarah comfortably negotiates different genres, including a few covers, which she did reasonably well.
That said, doing a cover is always a challenge; but trying to outdo a cover of a hit like Somewhere Only We know by Keane is… a really bold attempt. Nevertheless, kudos to you Sarah!
So, if you want a refreshing sound for your drive home or something to accompany you on a lazy weekend afternoon, why not give Brand New a shot? I’ll give Sarah Cheng-De Winne’s Brand New 3 out of five.
